Hello, fellow moviegoers! Zootopia is the latest film from Disney Animation. In the world of Zootopia, animals are anthropomorphic. That means that they walk around on two legs, they wear clothes, and they’re basically human beings in the form of animals. Police Officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) is the first rabbit ever to join the police force in the city of Zootopia. To prove to everybody she is serious about being a cop, she takes on a tough case that she has 48 hours to solve until she gets fired. She enlists the help of a residential fox named Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to help her solve this case. Together they travel throughout the city to get to the bottom of this case and prove that a rabbit can be a good cop just like everyone else. There is a lot of hype surrounding Zootopia. The trailers made this film look amazing, but did they represent the movie well? Is Zootopia a film that you should be excited for? Zootopia was an extremely entertaining film. It was a fun time that will keep you and your kids entertained. However, where it really shines is in the basic human story. This film is definitely one that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. There is plenty of kid-friendly humor that will get kids excited and chuckles out of adults. However, with that comes a variety of jokes that are going to go over every kids’ head. Some of them will even have you in shock as to how they made it into a kids’ movie. The animation in the film was very well done, which we’ve come to expect for Disney by now so there’s not much to talk about there. Just look at any other 3-D animated Disney movie, and you’ll know what to expect. Surprisingly enough, Zootopia has some very deep messages about the world we live in today, and how everybody treats each other. This film takes a look at our society, and really puts us in a mirror so we can actually see the effects that all of us have on each other. This film about animals walking around in clothes is one of the most human stories I’ve seen in a while. While it never goes full-out political thriller, there are plenty of moments that will make you sit back and really think about our society. About half way through the film there is about a 10-15 minute chunk that really slowed down the film. Zootopia had so much momentum going until that part hit. Then it seemed as if the film had ground to a halt a bit. After those 15 minutes are through, it picks up the pace pretty quickly again, so this is kind of just a nitpick. Aside from that, Zootopia is a really well made and executed film. The voice work in this film was great, especially Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde. His casting as the voice of that character is in the top tier along with Amy Poehler as Joy in Inside Out and James Earl Jones as Mufasa in The Lion King. All of the other voices in the film worked extremely well, there are even some surprise appearances that you won’t quite be expecting. I would also like to point out that Disney really outdid themselves this time when it came to building an interesting world. Zootopia was such an interesting and complex place that anybody would love to go to. All of the different ecosystems coming together and working in harmony was quite a sight to see. Don’t be surprised if there is a new Zootopia section coming soon to Disneyland. Disney Animation has done it again. Zootopia is a fun film that everyone in the family will enjoy. It features some truly great voice work, as well as some needed looks at the society we live in. I would recommend Zootopia to anyone who has enjoyed a Disney film before (so basically everybody). It’s a fun time at the theater, and you won’t regret paying the $10 to see it. 8.5/10 So what did you think of Zootopia? Where does it rank amongst other Disney films?
