Hello fellow moviegoers!
Why is it no that no good trilogies can be left as trilogies anymore? This is a serious question. There was Indiana Jones, Superman, Shrek and now this. It has been officially confirmed that 'Toy Story 4' is happening. While it is reassuring that John Lasseter (The director all the previous movies) is returning, I can't help but think, why?
Lasseter had this to say about the project...
"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie -- and I wanted to direct it myself."
He says that they are making it because they have an "exciting" new story that they "had to make". While I hope so much that this is true, I can't help but think that this is just a grab for money. Let's look at the previous movies box office shall we? According to Box Office Mojo, the original 'Toy Story' made $362,000,000 worldwide, 'Toy Story 2'; 485,000,000, and finally 'Toy Story 3'; 1,063,000,000! So financially, making a fourth movie is a great idea! But, the third movie ended off that trilogy so well, that I almost don't want to go back. Don't take that wrong, I will be there in the theatres opening weekend just like the rest of you. But, I will be a little hesitant.
I am so hopeful that this movie will live up to the expectations that the other movies set. I am just really, REALLY, nervous about it. It is so difficult to make a good fourth movie in any successful franchise that lives up to the previous movies. Especially, the ones that were only supposed to be a trilogy! I know that sometimes we like to pretend that 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' does not exist. But let's face it, it does, and it is the result of making a fourth movie of a great trilogy that ended magnificently!
Well, I guess all we can do is wait and see. What do you think about a Toy Story 4? Are you jumping for joy, or slumping and saying "WHY?!?!?" Let me know by commenting on this post!
