Hello fellow moviegoers!
The Shawshank Redemption stars Tim Robbins, and Morgan Freeman. This movie starts when Andy Dufresne (Robbins) is sentenced to a life sentence in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Inside Shawshank Prison, he befriends 'Red' (Freeman), a man who can get things inside of the prison for people and really knows a lot about how the system works. As time goes on, Andy starts to gain the trust of the warden and is even asked to help him out with basically anything that deals with money. Even dirty money.
I absolutely love this movie! I went into it with very high expectations due to having heard several people say that it is one of the best movies ever created. Those expectations were met. There are several things that make this movie what it is. The acting in this movie is spectacular! Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne is possibly one of the best performances I have seen in any movie in a long time. The emotion brought to that character was so well delivered, and so well portrayed that I could actually see this type of person existing in real life! Morgan Freeman was also terrific in the film. I loved how the film was told from his point of view for the most part, and his narration was perfect. He definitely deserved to get that Oscar nomination for the role of 'Red'.

The writing in this movie was just as brilliant. This movie was based off of a short story written by Stephen King. The fact that they could take that and turn it into a feature length movie is impressive enough as it is, but it was also good? That deserves an Academy award right there. I had to keep coming up with predictions in my head throughout this movie because, every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, it took an unexpected turn. I absolutely love when movies can do that because it keeps the audience engaged in the story.
So, in conclusion, I was overjoyed with this movie. The acting was spot-on. The story was brilliant. The writing and directing by Frank Darabont was some of the best directing I have ever seen. If you want to just sit down and watch a good movie without overwhelming amounts of action or cheesy comedy, I recommend this movie to you. Heck, I recommend this movie to everybody out there that considers themselves a movie fan. You need to watch this movie.

10/10
