Hello, fellow moviegoers! Spectre is the 24th film in the James Bond franchise and is one of the most anticipated films of the year by both critics and filmgoers alike. There is a lot of hype for this movie. They’ve got Christoph Waltz as a Bond villain! What a great idea! Additionally, they are going more into depth on 007’s mysterious life before MI6. So does this film live up to all of the hype? Here are my thoughts… At the end of the day, I was disappointed by Spectre. Not that it wasn’t interesting, or the actors weren’t great, or even because the action scenes were lackluster. In fact, this film is quite the opposite of that. I left the theater afterwards unsatisfied because it had so much potential that it simply did not capitalize on. The acting in the film was great. I absolutely loved Christoph Waltz as the villain. He was awesome, as he is in everything. The backstory for the character was so intriguing, and there were so many interesting places they could go with it that they just didn’t. Also, Dave Bautista played a character by the name of Mr. Hinx. He was definitely my favorite part of the film. Every time he was on the screen, your focus was on him. He was a mammoth of a guy that would legitimately strike fear into anybody in the same room as him. Did I mention he never says a word? Unfortunately, like everything else in this film, they didn’t make the most of that. He is really only in the first half of the film and is nowhere to be seen after that. The plot of the movie was extremely interesting. It’s always fun to delve into the mysterious background of an awesome character. It really sucked you in with the question of “Is James Bond really who he says he is?” The thing is, it sucks you in, but then it doesn't take you anywhere. You’re left sitting there waiting for that big hurrah that never comes. The action scenes were really the standout part of the film. They were so riveting! There were points where they would have you on the edge of your seat, then only a few seconds later they would have you smiling with a sigh of release. The movie droned on longer than it should have as well. There were points where I was sitting there waiting for something to happen, that wouldn’t happen for another five minutes. With filler scenes in between. It would get a little repetitive. Interesting scene, filler scenes, action scene, interesting scene, filler scenes, action scene, overall disappointment. I realize that it must seem like I didn’t like this movie. Which couldn’t be more false, I enjoyed this movie. What frustrates me about it, is that this had so much potential to be a great, or even an amazing film; however, it just settles for good. I would slightly recommend seeing Spectre if you are a die-hard fan of the James Bond franchise. Who knows? You may love the film. I’m generally not a big Bond fan, so maybe you’ll find more enjoyment in it than I did. 6.5/10 So what did you think of Spectre? Did you enjoy Christoph Waltz as a Bond villain?
