Hello fellow moviegoers!
Ever since it was confirmed by Dwane "The Rock" Johnson that a 'Shazam' movie is in the works, people have been wondering how it would fit into this new DC Universe that started with 'Man of Steel'. Would it go a little darker than usual, or would it still keep it's lighthearted tone? Well, as it turns out, 'Shazam' might not be part of the DCCU after all! "The Rock" (Black Adam) had this to say about it on Twitter...
"I guaran-damn-tee we're gonna have bad ass fun w/ Black Adam. (Its a NL/DC property). #Independence"
For those of you who don't know, the new 'Shazam' movie is not being produced by WB. But rather, New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of WB. This has caused heavy speculation that the film will be separate from the DC Cinematic Universe that Warner Bros. is trying so hard to establish. While that hasn't been officially confirmed by DC, it seems that "The Rock" using #Independence put the final nail in that coffin.
Personally, I think having a "Shazam" film that is being omitted from the DCCU is a terrible idea. WB has spent years trying to get this universe off of the ground. In case you don't remember, 2011's 'Green Lantern' was supposed to be DC's 'Iron Man', and look how that turned out. Now that they have a somewhat stable cinematic universe, is one of the first things they're going to do is make a movie that could very easily be part of it, but just isn't. It just seems strange to me.
To add on to that, "The Rock" is a great actor, DC would basically be making one of their biggest mistakes to hire him ,and not utilize him to his full potential. Could you imagine "The Rock"'s Black Adam facing of with Henry Cavill's Superman? That would be fantastic! He could very easily be the big villain in the first 'Justice League' movie! That would also set up the cinematic universe for the 'Shazam' movie!
I guess we will just have to do what we always do, and wait for more announcements. While I will be one of the first people in line to see the 'Shazam' film whether or not it is part of the DCCU, I just feel like it is a foolish choice not to have him there.
What do you think? Should 'Shazam' be part of the new DC Cinematic Universe, or not? Let me know by commenting on this post!
