Hello fellow moviegoers!
Pitch Perfect 2 stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Adam DeVine. It is the sequel to 2012’s Pitch Perfect. This time around is an incident happens that causes the Bardon Bellas, an A Capella group, to lose their right to compete in all competitions except for Internationals. Can they pull themselves to together enough to win the worldwide competition, or are the Bellas finished?
Pitch Perfect 2 is a good follow-up to the original that will definitely leave hard-core fans feeling great. For those that didn’t find a lot of enjoyment in the 2012 film, this film won’t turn you into a fan. Pitch Perfect 2 is extremely similar to the first one.
It captures your attention right away with an interesting performance, then tries it’s best to keep you there by throwing joke after joke at you and hope that they hit. Unfortunately not all of them do. Walking out of the theatre, it is abundantly clear that a certain character is there simply to make racist jokes. Thinking back on it, it is difficult to find a single line that character said that wasn’t a joke about a certain ethnicity. It was a little funny at first, but then they just beat you over the head with it. It leaves you wondering “Is there really any other reason this character is here?”
The musical numbers in the film are definitely ones you can jam out to on your I-Pod. The way they mixed a bunch of classic and modern songs together was great! The mixes definitely rival those of the first film. There is even an original piece or two in there.
The performances in this film overall were pretty decent. Anna Kendrick definitely knows this character inside-out, and she definitely carries the film. One thing that is painfully obvious is that Rebel Wilson doesn’t seem to know how to make a joke unless it is about her weight. She is definitely a funny actress, but it would be nice to see her do something other than the same character she seems to be playing over and over again. That’s not to say that she isn’t funny though. A majority of her jokes hit pretty hard, but the ones that don’t are just kind of awkward.
So overall, Pitch Perfect 2 is a decently funny sequel to the original Pitch Perfect. While it doesn’t quite hit the level of greatness the first one did, it still is a good movie that you and your friends can go enjoy. Especially if you like the first one.
