Hello fellow moviegoers!
Mad Max: Fury Road is directed by George Miller, and stars Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult. The story follows Max, a former cop living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. After he ends up captured by a faction of people gone insane from the lack of water, he ends up riding with Furiosa (Theron) on a mission to bring something stolen from Immortan Joe, the ruler of a place called The Citadel, far away and to safety. Meanwhile, they are being chased across the Wasteland by an army of crazy people lead by Immortan Joe himself. There have been critics out there saying that this is “The best action film in recent years”, but are they over exaggerating?
Mad Max: Fury Road is one of those action movies where you are left sitting in your seat in trying to comprehend what just happened, and you loved every second of it. This movie is pure insanity. From the action scenes, to the practical effects, to the interesting plot, this movie meets and even exceeds all expectations.
The visual effects in this movie are definitely the thing that stands out the most. You are seeing all these things on screen and a good portion of them are actually practical effects, not digital. It is always so refreshing to see films that don’t rely solely upon effects made on a computer. It makes the movie going experience so much better.
The plot of the movie is the thing that keeps it from achieving that next level of awesomeness. Granted, the plot is still good. But it does get a little repetitive at times. At parts it seems like it is just on loop between fixing their truck, and running away from the bad guys. There is a point in the movie where it does break that repetitiveness though, and it is from there on that the plot becomes the most interesting.
One thing that was kind of a surprise was that it really didn’t seem like Max was a key point in the plot. It seemed like he was just along for the ride while the plot was all resting on Furiosa. In some cases, this is more of a Furiosa movie rather than a Mad Max movie.
To me, Mad Max: Fury Road is a movie that you enjoy quite a lot when you watch it, but you don’t feel the need to buy it on DVD or Blu-ray. You just need to watch it once, maybe twice depending on the type of person you are. I would like to see more of these films with Tom Hardy starring though, he did a great job, and they do leave it open for a sequel.
So overall, Mad Max: Fury Road is 120 minutes of utter insanity. The visual effects, and action scenes are terrific. The plot isn’t as intriguing but it is still good. If you are a fan of action movies that are completely over-the-top with scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat, this movie is for you.
So what did you think of Mad Max: Fury Road? Was it a little too insane for your tastes, or did you love every second of it? Let me know by commenting on this post!
