Hello fellow moviegoers!
Kingsman: The Secret Service stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, and Mark Strong. A lot of people out there have passed over this movie to see other less colorful movies this past weekend, but is this movie really worth your money? Here's what you should know...
Kingsman: The Secret Service is definitely the most fun I have had at a theatre so far this year. It is the story about this kid named Eggsy (Egerton) who is the son of a former member of a British spy network called Kingsman. When Eggsy is recruited for training to become a Kingsman by Colin Firth's character named "Galahad", he starts to really develop as a person and learn that "Manners maketh man".
Samuel L. Jackson plays the villain in this movie, and he is definitely an interesting one. Not only is it strange to hear Sam Jackson with a lisp, but also he doesn't like to see violence, in which he causes a lot of. I thought that his character was going to be one where it didn't necessarily need to be Sam Jackson, but he really made that character a lot of fun! He was definitely an interesting villain.
The concept of this film is such a cool one. Kingsman is basically a modern day version of the Knights of the Round Table. Each member is even given a code name that is the name of one of the original knights. When you go to see this movie (and you should see this movie) be aware that this isn't a movie for kids. There is enough language to fill several jars of quarters. It is also extremely violent. If you cannot handle impalements, decapitations, and other absurdly violent actions, this movie isn't for you...
I cannot stress enough how badly you should see this movie though. Not only is it just a good action film, but it is also incredibly funny. Not often is an action scene good enough to make people laugh uncontrollably. In fact that only happened to me once last year in the climax of Godzilla, but that happened to me not once, but twice in this movie. That's how good it is. The first was in an all out brawl in a church about half-way through. I don't want to spoil the second one, when you hear Pomp and Circumstance, you'll know what I am talking about.
The acting in this movie is also really good. Almost nobody knows who Taron Egerton is now, but we will. This guy was brilliant in this movie, he is definitely going to have more big roles coming his way (especially if those Spiderman rumors are true). Colin Firth, who is usually a dramatic actor, was awesome. He pulled off that character so well. Not once did I feel like it wasn't actually him doing all of these crazy things. It was really cool to see Firth take on a different sort of role than he usually does, and he knocked it out of the park. The rest of the cast was great! Mark Strong played Merlin who is the tech-guy of the group and he was as good as ever. One person I didn't even realize was in the movie until last week is Mark Hamill. Although he isn't a major character and he's not in it very much, he did a good job. (It really just got me excited to see him again this December)
So, overall Kingsman: The Secret Service is the most fun I've had in a theatre so far this year! It's definitely a movie you need to check out, especially if you are a fan of the James Bond franchise, or really just fun action movies at all. We better get a sequel...
9/10
I know I have been giving a LOT of 9's recently but there have just been so many great movies I've been seeing! Anyway, did you see Kingsman: The Secret Service? What were your impressions? Would you like a sequel? Let me know by commenting on this post!
