Hello, fellow moviegoers! John Wick: Chapter 2 is directed by Chad Stahelski, and it stars Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Lawrence Fishburne, and Common. It’s a sequel to the critically praised 2014 film, John Wick. This film follows Mr. Wick as he continues to yearn and seek retirement from the crime-filled life he has lived. When he must follow up on a debt he pledged when he first got out of the business, there are major ramifications. The first John Wick was an overly violent, crazy, fun-filled action flick that was wholly entertaining to almost anybody that saw it. Its sequel, John Wick: Chapter Two, is a great follow-up to the original’s ridiculousness. The audience may not be as emotionally invested in the story as the first one (still sad about that dog), but the film still manages to keep the audience enveloped and entertained throughout the entirety of its runtime. A big part of what makes John Wick so fun to watch is the insanity that is its action sequences. The fight scenes and shoot-outs in this movie equate those of the original, and some may even top them. From the very beginning of this movie, the action sequences are intense, exciting, and completely outrageous (in a good way). As you’d expect from a John Wick film, these scenes are extremely violent, so if violence isn’t your thing, you might not enjoy this movie. The violence is similar to that of the first film, so if that bothered you, expect it to do the same here. In addition to the film’s crazy action, it also features a very witty and unique sense of humor. There is a surprising amount of laugh out loud moments in this film. Some of these funny moments are even worked into and interwoven with the action sequences. One scene in particular in a subway station between John Wick and Cassian, Common’s character, was incredibly clever and caused the entire audience to laugh. The sense of humor in this film added to the overall entertaining experience, and it kept the film from feeling too overly serious. Despite the witty humor and crazy action sequences, there are a few times in the movie where it does slow down and drag a little bit. These lulls in the movie were only highlighted by how fast-paced the rest of the film was. Since all of the other scenes were so expeditious, these passive moments seemed to really drag the movie down. It’s not that the scenes were bad, they just messed with the pacing a little bit, and that took me out of the movie. The cast in this movie is almost as fun as the movie itself. First of all, Keanu Reeves proves in this film that he was born to play John Wick. He plays this brooding yet sarcastic character extremely well. There are several moments in this film where we see firsthand why so many people fear John Wick as much as they do, and Reeves sold those scenes very well. The biggest surprise in the film, to me, was Common. He plays a character named Cassian who is on an equal level with John Wick as far as skill goes, and Common was cast perfectly in that role. Common and Reeves both played off of each other wonderfully, and I really hope to see Cassian return in Chapter Three whenever that happens. John Wick: Chapter Two is the definition of a crazy fun action movie. It’s over-the-top fight sequences, and unique humor made the film an incredibly entertaining one to watch. It does have a few moments where the pacing is a bit off, but it’s nothing too major. If you enjoyed the first John Wick, then you will enjoy this one. It’s not the cliché action movie sequel that just tells the same story. Chapter Two continues the story of John Wick, and it feels like the natural next phase in this world. I would highly recommend John Wick: Chapter Two to anyone looking for a great action movie to watch. Just make sure you see the first one before you do! 8/10 So what did you think of John Wick: Chapter Two? Would you be excited to see a third chapter? Let me know by commenting on this post!
