Inside Out Movie Review

Hello fellow moviegoers!
Inside Out is the newest film brought to us by Disney-Pixar and is definitely their most original idea since Up. Inside Out features the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, and Richard Kind. The basic plotline follows the emotions in 11 year-old Riley's head, as they all try to cope with moving across the country to San Francisco, leaving all of their friends behind. This film has an immense amount of potential, but does it really live up to the hype?

Inside Out is a rollercoaster of emotions both literally and figuratively. The way Pixar went about presenting this idea about "meeting the little voices inside your head" was simply brilliant. I cannot imagine this film being in the hands of any other company except for Pixar. Ten years from now, Inside Out will definitely be in the same conversation with Toy Story, Finding Nemo, and Up.
The voice-cast in this film is definitely one of the things that stands out. Casting Amy Poehler as Joy was probably one of the smartest moves they made. (If you've seen Parks and Recreation, then you know why) Also Lewis Black as Anger was probably the funniest character in the entire film. When I saw the cast for this movie, I was afraid I would literally hear their voices and see them in my head every time their character spoke. I am happy to say that wasn't the case. In fact, most of the time I didn't even realize it was them talking!
The way that Pixar went about designing the inside out Riley's head, and all of the things going on was magnificent. It was so interesting seeing how some of the things we do or think were translated into this world. Also, it is worth noting that adults will enjoy this movie just as much if not more than kids. There are plenty of jokes in there that are just going to fly over a kid's head, but every parent in the audience will think is hilarious.
I realize that this is kind of a short review, but really there isn't anything else to say. Inside Out is a wonderfully crafted, original idea from Pixar. Adults will love it. Kids will love it. The race for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars might as well be over. It is definitely my favorite movie of the year so far.

9.5/10
