Hello, fellow moviegoers!
These past few weeks have been full of all kinds of superhero movie news. We are currently living in the Renaissance of comic book films. It can sometimes become difficult to keep up with all of the movies news coming out. So, here is the latest comic-book film related news that you need to know!

Luke Cage Coming to Netflix in September!
All of the Marvel Netflix series to date have been fantastic. With the second season of Daredevil premiering later this week, Marvel has just announced a release date for their third new superhero series. Luke Cage will be based upon the indestructible character that premiered in Jessica Jones this past November. Mike Colter’s portrayal of Luke Cage was one of the best parts of that entire series, so this news is extremely exciting for obvious reasons.
We don’t have to wait much longer because this new series is set to premiere on September 30th. That is a fantastic time to release this series. There are no major wide-release films hitting theaters that week or in the several weeks following. This will give audiences plenty of time to binge-watch the entire thing, and not have to worry about missing anything big by not going to the theater. It’s just an overall good decision.

J.K. Simmons is Commissioner Gordon!
We are now only a couple weeks away from the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. With many characters from the Batman mythos set to appear in that film, one notable absence is that of Commissioner Gordon. This absence had fans speculating that Gordon was going to be deceased in this new D.C. Extended Universe. Well, all of those rumors have been proven false with the recent announcement that J.K. Simmons will take on the role in the upcoming Justice League film.
If there was anyone that could follow up the perfect casting of Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon in the Dark Knight Trilogy, J.K. Simmons would be that person. While he isn’t the first person that comes to mind when you think of the character, Simmons is one the best actors working right now. While this probably won’t be the Gordon we’re used to, I’m very excited to see what comes out of this casting. The only thing that stands out to me is that he was cast in the Justice League film. You don’t bring a guy like Simmons in for a small role, so I’m curious what kind of purpose Commissioner Gordon is going to have in the Justice League film. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. You can see the start of the Justice League in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25th, along with the first Justice League film in November of 2017.

First look at Tom Holland’s Spiderman!
With the recent release of the new trailer for Captain America: Civil War, fans got their first look at our newest Spiderman. No, this is not the Tobey Maguire Spiderman of the early 2000s or the Andrew Garfield Spiderman of the recent Amazing Spiderman series. This is a completely new take on the character that will be portrayed by 19-year-old English actor Tom Holland.
This new Spiderman marks the introduction of everyone’s favorite web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, we will finally get to see Spiderman fighting alongside the Avengers! The new suit takes inspiration from more classic Spider-suits choosing to go with a smaller logo on the chest. However, it looks as if Tony Stark had a hand in creating it, as the eyes have a hint of technology in them. Personally, I’m not a big fan of Spiderman, so I wasn’t super impressed by his reveal in the trailer, but I am curious to see how he will fit into the MCU. You can see this new Spiderman in Captain America: Civil War hitting theaters on May 6th of this year. He will get his first standalone film in July of 2017.
